– For your consideration is this vintage 1969 Goodrich Sound Co. model 122 volume pedal that was factory modified for Red Rhodes.
– The model designation on the pedal, inscribed as “MOD. 122-VE-RR” in black ink, seems to translate into “Model 122-Volume-RedRhodes”. Mark Sampson, of Matchless Amplification, was tasked with reverse engineering this unit so he could fully document the schematic and subsequently properly service. Mark’s hand-drawn schematic is included.
– While very little documentation exists with respect to the few fuzz pedals manufactured by Goodrich, the circuit board within this pedal is nearly identical to that found within the Goodrich String Box. The diagonal mount PCB consisting of a Fuzz Face inspired circuit with (2) silicon transistors is perhaps the first iteration of the String Box circuit.
– This pedal is surely history with a bit of mystery.
