– For your consideration is this vintage 1964 Gibson Melody Maker D electric solidbody guitar with the original alligator chipboard case.
– This fantastic player’s example, serial number 212271, is in perfect structural shape (no breaks, no cracks, no repairs) though it was thoughtfully upgraded with an enhanced compensated wrap around tailpiece with newer Kluson Deluxe tuning machines installed.
– This era double cutaway version is an all-around great guitar. With the confluence of the best Melody Maker D features, this guitar sports; a nicely matched pair of single-coil pickups, a super comfortable slim taper neck profile, factory large frets, a wide 1 11/16″ nut width, and a featherweight construction.
– The original 3-on-a-side open back strip tuners were replaced with Ping tuning machines at one point. Those were swapped for a more vintage inspired Kluson Deluxe 3-on-a-side reissue set which work great and somewhat look the part. The original compensated wrap around was replaced with a more modern version. Otherwise, this guitar is completely original.
– The original alligator case was completely painted Smurf blue. Only God knows why. No attempt has been made to remove paint from the exterior to restore the case.
– Pickup measurements: 7.29 kOhm (bridge), 7.10 kOhm (neck)
– Neck measurements: .783″ depth at 1st fret, .988″ depth at 12th fret, 1.690″ nut width (just one hair wider than 1 11/16″)
– Weight: 5.6 lbs.
