– For your consideration is this vintage 1961 Stella Model 103 electric solidbody guitar.
– This incredibly rare MIJ instrument, serial number 103, is one of very few guitars manufactured by the Stella imprint. In fact, this make is so rare Premier Guitar magazine’s article titled “Wizard of Odd: Stella a Story of Strange Solidbodies” seems to suggest they’re all handmade with each one being a 1-of-a-kind guitar: as no two appear to be the same. Fairly, extensive online research only reveals two other known examples, with this one being the third.
– It was recently refretted, and it now plays and sounds great. From the exterior, the thin gold-plated blade pickups appear quite petite and underwhelming, however their outward appearance belies the actual size and magnitude within. These (3) large single-coil pickups sound wonderful and wildly dynamic. Their versatile sonic nature is augmented with an 8-position rotary tone switch, not unlike a Gibson Varitone. Oddly, the pickguard only designates 4 tonal positions, which is likely due to the very small production approach of this Stella imprint.
– No case.
