– For your consideration is this vintage 1960 Fender Stratocaster electric guitar.
– This amazingly cool ’60 ‘slab board’ Strat, serial number 45698, is 100% all original aside from the body only Ink Blue refinish, which was applied many decades ago.
– First and foremost, this is a wonderful instrument. This is a Strat that exceeds expectation in every regard. It’s remarkably light-weight, the slim neck feels like the best profile Fender ever shaped, and the wonderful sounding black bobbin pickups are evenly matched.
– The nitrocellulose lacquer refinish is professionally applied and very old, having completely absorbed into the alder body. Reference the many photos illustrating the grain being visible through the light coat alongside very attractive authentic weather-checking.
– Pickup measurements: 5.75 kOhm (bridge), 6.58 kOhm (neck), 6.92 kOhm (middle)
– Neck measurements: 1.637″ nut width, .782″ neck depth at 1st fret, .960 neck depth at 12th fret.
– Both visible pot codes reveal late-’59 dates. The lack of a pencil date on the neck heal suggest late-’59 as well, however, since the pot codes are so late in 1959, compounded with the VERY early 1960 designated serial number plate, it’s safe to assume this was assembled in early (possibly January) 1960.
– Even though this is a factory hard tail model, with no synchronized vibrato tailpiece, it is unusually light-weight at only 6.5 lbs. (6 lbs. 8 oz., or 2.94835 kilos.)
– The electronics are untouched and completely original. Every solder joint on the assembly is factory made. The mint green guard is gorgeous, and all black bobbin pickups are original and sound fantastic. It still retains the original 3-way pickup selector switch.
