– For your consideration is this 2000 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop vintage ’57 reissue electric guitar.
– This incredibly limited historic custom shop R7 model, serial number 7 01195 with an official model designation of LPR7-A, was hand-aged by Tom Murphy. It includes an original production Lifton 5-latch reissue case. It does not include a COA as those were not officially issued until the following year in 2001.
– Apparently only a small batch of R7 Les Pauls were aged by Murphy in 2000. There were no other luthiers aging or relic’ing Gibson guitars in the factory at that time: this was confirmed by the Gibson Consumer Services Dept. as well as reiterated by experts on the Les Paul forum. Keep in mind, Tom Murphy was not the esteemed luthier he is today during the early years of his tenure. Josh at Gibson Consumer Services confirmed in an email “I searched 701195 in my database and found LPR7APAGNH1, a 1957 Les Paul Standard Reissue in Aged Antique Gold with Nickel Hardware that shipped from us 10/21/2000… this was the 1195th 1957 serial number issued in 2000.” [see the screen grab of the email he forwarded.] So, this is a factory designated “aged” R7, during a period where Tom Murphy was the ONLY luthier doing so. Again, it does not include a Certificate of Authenticity because they were simply did not exist until 2001.
– This is an exceptional all original example, with the original pickguard (included) having never been installed. It includes all of the tags.
– A wonderful instrument with a perfectly subtle hand relic treatment by Tom Murphy himself, this guitar happens to look far better than a normal production R7. Being from the “Good Wood” era, this Les Paul is also perfectly balanced with a wonderfully vibrant and responsive character. It’s very full range and articulate, much like an original 1957 Les Paul Goltop.
– It features a quintessential large D-shape neck profile: .915″ neck depth at 1st fret, 1.021″ neck depth at 12th fret.
– The PAF reissues measure: 8.06 kOhm (neck), 7.80 kOhm (bridge).
– Weight: 8.6 lbs,
