– For your consideration is this vintage 1981 Ibanez OD9 Overdrive by Maxon.
– This incredibly rare black label MIJ Ibanez pedal is considered by collectors to be the rarest of the 9-series effects as it was exclusively made for the French marketplace. While most sites reference production being between 1982-1984, plenty of evidence suggests the that several batches were released in mid-late 1981.
– The serial number on this unit, 162263, is not just from the first batch, it also appears to be perhaps the earliest of the batch to be documented. Southside sold 162294 some years ago.
– The ToneHouse website “Produced in extremely small quantities, never found its way to the official Ibanez catalogs. Rumor has it that all OD-9 were built for the French market only. The fact that the owner’s manual isn’t tri-lingual (English, German, French) as the rest of the 9-series manuals but French only, does attest that. Availability: Extremely rare. Collectibility: Extremely high.”
– A fantastic sounding pedal, this piece of unobtanium is most akin to an early Electro-Harmonix ram’s head Big Muff pedal. Incredibly robust saturated distortion oozes out of this thing.
