– For your consideration is this vintage 1960s Corelli Classic acoustic nylon string classical guitar, customized and owned by mail-order mystic Master Wilburn Burchette.
– Per Numero Group’s website, “…Burchette was first known from his ads, hidden in the back pages of Fate Magazine, Beyond Reality, and Gnostica News. On offer: Burchett’s [sic] seven-part, block-printed “Psychic Meditation Course,” designed to teach people how to listen to music. To go along with his lessons, Burchette sold a series of instrumental guitar and electronic records featuring ornate hand-drawn cover designs, complete with listening instructions from the Master himself. Since just his twelfth year, Burchette had been transfixed by the parapsychological, spending as much time reading books on Tibetan mysticism fundamentals as he did practicing guitar, the vibrations of which he used to create tonal pictures and patterns. After time spent teaching classical guitar, Master Wilburn Burchette released seven albums in the seven years spanning 1971 through 1977, before abruptly burning and discarding everything related to his musical explorations.”
– Contrary to what is noted above, Burchette did not destroy his instruments, as Gearlord purchased the Burchette collection in mid-2025.
– Burchette presumably used this guitar, alongside others, to record his 7 albums; Occult Concert (1971), Opens the Seven Gates of Transcendental Consciousness (1972), Guitar Grimoire (1973), Psychic Meditation Music (1974), Music of the Godhead for Supernatural Meditation (1975), Transcendental Music for Meditation (1976), and Mind Storm (1977).
– Burchette was incredibly reclusive, so not much is known about his life aside from the albums he made in the ’70s. But what one can easily discern from his guitar collection is that he was very thoughtful and incredibly particular. His attention to detail and his penchant for customization was a through-line with all of his guitars. This particular Corelli Classic acoustic guitar was electrified and converted in an acoustic-electric instrument via the installation of a transducer pickup. This was the only true nylon string guitar he owned. He is believed to be the original owner.
– Bordering on OCD, he kept meticulous care of all of his instruments, and this guitar was no exception. It includes the original hard case, original hangtag, the original polish cloth, Burchette’s business card, and an NOS strap.
